Dolphins Faced Tough Wildwood Manor
By Doll Finn
Senior Dolphin Correspondent
The meet against Wildwood Manor was pretty much as tough as
expected. Despite some strong performances, the Bannockburn Dolphins were never
really competitive against one of the stronger teams in the division.
The 175 graduated relay neatly summed up the meet. For the
boys, Wildwood took first even though its relay was slower than its seed time
while the relay of Andrew O’Brien, Gideon Helf, Jeffrey Su and Will Spooner
beat their seed time but still finished second. The team of Cole Wassiliew,
Lucca Scott, Jonathan Rufino and Max Kroloff was fourth.
For the girls, the team of Evelyn Wassiliew, Shifra Eskin,
Katya Damskey and Darby LeFaivre also beat their seed time, but that was only
good enough for third. The team of Maya Lall, Katie MacIsaac, Danielle Lair
Ferrari and Taylor Pyle was fourth.
In short, the Dolphins had some incredible performances. But
it just wasn’t enough at this home meet. We highlight some of those swims in
today’s column.
In under 8 25 free, Will Spooner took 3/10 of a second off
to finish second with Max Kroloff in third.
Darby LeFaivre hit an all star time in 25 free and took
nearly 3/10 of a second off to finish second. Taylor Pyle also took about 1.2
seconds off her 25 free time while Maggie Southworth dropped .45 seconds.
In boys 13/14 free, Jeffrey Su set an All Star time and
dropped another .82 seconds from his 50 free time.
Gideon Helf dropped nearly half a second in 50 free for
11/12 boys while Cecily McArdle dropped nearly 8/10 of a second for the girls
11/12 50 free. Cecily later would drop about 8/10 of a second in 25 back.
Swimming in 15/18, Alex Burbelo dropped almost two seconds
in the 100 free despite only being 14.
Moving into 13/14 IM, Jeffrey Su dropped 2.31 seconds for
second and an All Star time. Jeffrey
also dropped about half a second in 50 back to take the win.
For 25 back, Will Spooner dropped nearly half a second to finish
second for boys under 8.
Anna-Louise Cobau took more than 1.2 seconds off her 25 back
stroke for 9/10 girls while Jacob Seiberg was the top boy for the Dolphins in
9/10 back.
And full credit to Mariana Pennybacker who as a 13 year old
swam the 15/18 100 back and finished fifth, ahead of a Wildwood Manor swimmer who
was two years older. We also would note that in the boys version of this event,
both Hugo Burbelo and Alex Burbelo swam at 15/18 despite only being 14.
In the 15/18 100 IM, John Janezich dropped 3.3 seconds to
win. Max Kroloff in under 8 boys took 3.3 seconds off 25 breast stroke. For the
girls, Taylor Pyle dropped more than half a second.
Shifra Eskin took first in the 50 breast stroke with an All
Star time while Colleen Zeugin and Cecily McArdle both dropped close to a
second on their times for fifth and sixth.
In the Girls 13/14 50 breast, the Dolphins took second
through fourth with Danielle Lair Ferrari, Alexa Crist, and Caitlin Ryan.
Jessie Kline took second for the girls 15/18 100 breast with credit to Sarah
Cobau and Mariana Pennybacker for swimming up in that race.
The final stoke is always fly. The Dolphins started on a
positive note will Will Spooner taking first for Under 8 in an All Star time.
He won by 1/100 of a second, which is really, really, really close. Darby
LeFaivre also set an under 8 All Star time but came in third.
Other notable performances in fly include Jeffrey Su taking
first in 13/14 boys 50 fly in an All Star time while Jonathan Rufino dropped
nearly a second off his time. Katya
Damskey and Danielle Lair Ferrari grabbed first and second in girls 13/14 50
fly with Gabriela Helf dropping almost a second off her time.
In 15/18 50 fly, John Janzich took first in an All Star time
with Jessie Kline and Bryna Steele taking second and third for the girls. Sarah
Cobau competing up an age group dropped close to two seconds from her time.
Sing, Sing a Song…..
By Haydn the Dog
Dolphin Editor in Chief
Can you sing?
Don’t worry about it. If history is an indicator, this
Thursday’s karaoke will be more about style over substance. And frankly, it is
really about lots of fun as the swim season winds down.
So make sure you come down to the pool Thursday at 7 pm
after practice and see what all the fuss is about.
